Google Maps directions to GPX

Paste a Google Maps directions link. You get the stops and the route on a map, and a GPX file to download. Long links and short maps.app.goo.gl links both work.

Your link is processed in your browser. Nothing is stored or tracked.

How to use

  1. In Google Maps, get directions between two or more places.
  2. Press Share and copy the link, or copy the address from the browser.
  3. Paste the link above and press Convert.
  4. Check the stops and the route on the map. Pick another routing style if you like.
  5. Press Download GPX and open the file in your navigation or sports app.

What is GPX?

GPX is an open file format for GPS data. It stores waypoints (your stops), routes (the stops in order) and tracks (the line you follow). Most GPS devices and map apps can read it, so you can take a route planned in Google Maps to an app that works offline.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps can open a GPX file?

Garmin devices and Garmin Connect, OsmAnd, Strava, Komoot and many other GPS, hiking and cycling apps can import GPX files. The file holds your stops as waypoints, a route, and a track line.

Do short links like maps.app.goo.gl work?

Yes. A short link is opened by a small function on this site that follows the redirect to the full Google Maps address. It only follows Google addresses and nothing else.

Is my link stored or tracked?

No. The link is read in your browser. For a short link, the address is sent to this site once to open it, and it is not stored. Routing requests go from your browser to the public OpenStreetMap routing server and contain only coordinates. There are no accounts, cookies or analytics.

Why does the route line differ from Google Maps?

Google Maps does not put its route line in the link. This tool routes your stops again with OpenStreetMap data, so the line can differ a little. Your stops are always exactly the ones in the link.

Why does it say it could not find coordinates for a stop?

Google only puts coordinates in the link for places picked from the map or from search suggestions. A stop typed as plain text has none, and this tool does not look up addresses. Open the route in Google Maps, pick that stop from the suggestions, and copy the link again.
